Attraction Design, 1964-2002.

Scope and content:

This series holds the professional papers of Stephen Danks Lodwick that were produced during his tenure with various theme park design companies as well as his own design company, Mighty Scenic, Inc. Original artwork and prints of several rides and interactive areas that Lodwick designed can be found here as well as a vast array of research notes he collected during the concept design process. Rides featured here include Dudley Do Right's Ripsaw Falls and Dr. Seuess's Landing both found at Islands of Adventure, Universal Studios, Florida. Renderings showing the early layout of Islands of Adventure can also be found here. Other attractions include an interactive area called The Funtastic World of Hanna Barbera, the preliminary notes to a proposed interactive show for Universal Studios based on the characters from the Ghostbusters movie, concept drawings for a themed area featuring the Peanuts comic strip characters, a conceptual Disney attraction rendering, as well as renderings and photos from the Rugrats Runaway Reptar Ride in Nickelodeon Central, located at Paramount theme parks around the country. Other attraction renderings include the Jurassic Park River Adventure ride, Popeye and Bluto's Bilge Rat Barges raft ride, as well as the Islands of Adventure theme area Toon Lagoon. Also included is a sampling of the many publications Lodwick collected through his professional career. Most notable are various items produced by Disney, several theme park and dark ride magazines, and publications from the Themed Entertainment Association (THEA). While many of the publication titles cover a several year span, most are not collected as a full run.
