Shaw Bibliography Notes and Source Materials, 1805-2007

Scope and content:

This subseries comprises two types of materials: (a) Shaw's bibliographic notes and comments on author- or title-headed pages, as he typed them originally when he acquired each book, and (b) other items that refer to the books and authors (clippings, articles, brochures, broadsides, etc.) and which he attached to these note pages or stored in envelopes or in the books themselves. Among the second group (b) are items that could not be ascribed to a particular author listed in Shaw's published bibliography. These items appear in this subseries under the following theme headings: Bibloiography,Biography, Children, Collecting, Publishing, and Writing. These themes permeate the entire Shaw collection, the books as well as the materials in this finding aid. Shaw's published bibliography, Childhood in Poetry, gathers together information from these two types of materials. Additional information leading to further study can be gleaned from the source materials that is not included in the published bibliography.

Accruals:

The extent, or quantity of items in each folder, can vary from a single page of a bibliographic note to an attached set of related, multipage items. These attached materials, counted as one item, may relate to only one or to any number of the six themes.
