State University System, 1969-2002

Scope and content:

Series I contains correspondence, reports, and notes that detail the president's involvement with the State University System as it related to the operations of the university. The subseries and the files within them are arranged in alphabetical order. Most of the materials consist of meeting documents for the Board of Regents and Council of Presidents meetings. File dividers were removed from some of these documents and replaced with acid-free paper; the numbers indicate the agenda numbers. Some Council of Presidents meeting documents are almost entirely minutes, and they form a separate file group. Budgets for the universities were negotiated through the State University System and the budget process is documented here. A separate subseries is devoted to the Chancellor who was in frequent contact with the presidents and the Board of Regents by memorandum. This internal correspondence differs from Policy Memoranda that are consecutively numbered beginning in January of each year until 1996 when the system became more complicated. Policy Memoranda are, therefore, arranged by number until 1996 and then chronologically. In October 1996 the memoranda were rescinded and new ones issued with an index on the Chancellor's web site. Of particular interest in this series are the files entitled "governance" that show how the Board of Regents came to an end. July 1981 meetings include information about groundbreaking for Research Park. State University System Master Plans and files highlighting the president's work with the Florida Senate Ways and Means Committee on a twenty-five percent Florida universities budget reduction for UCF are also significant.
