Wet 'n Wild, 1974-2005.
- Scope and content:
Series I is arranged in four subseries. Correspondence files begin with incoming and outgoing correspondence followed by stockholders' correspondence and correspondence with individual stockholders arranged alphabetically. These files cover all matters handled by George Millay as well as personal letters. Subject files are arranged alphabetically and include minutes, correspondence, advertising materials, memorabilia, research materials and plans. Of particular interest in this subseries is information about the rides chosen for the waterparks. Winter Park was a plan to create a park to draw families during the winter and includes photographs of a site, possibly Arlington. William Riley's file includes photographs of Ontario Place, a park in Toronto, Canada that inspired George Millay. News Clippings include research about competitors such as Disney's River Country.
Parks Files form the largest subseries and include marketing materials, memorabilia, news clippings, photographs, plans, posters, correspondence, renderings and reports documenting the creation of the Wet 'n Wild waterparks. Not all plans came to fruition, and the subseries includes information about several sites in the San Diego area where the company attempted to build a park. The folder containing photographs of the Yokohama presentation includes cards for savings at the Hibachi 97 Japanese Steakhouse in Arlington. A revised budget for Orlando is included with its blueprints.
Finally, a group of files clearly belonged entirely to Anne Millay, and these have been kept separately and arranged alphabetically. Anne Millay acted as the trustee for her children and, therefore, maintained files in their interest as well as a general interest in her husband's achievements. This subseries, therefore, includes company audits, reports and information about the sale of the company in addition to marketing materials, photographs and news clippings. Corporate Executive Pictures include information about Broward County and Poway. Marketing Information includes a plastic bag, poster and membership card. Information about Poway may be found in the San Diego file. Some materials repeat and others complement the information held in the other subseries.
