Mr. Paisley served as Research Editor of the Graduate Research Office and over the course of his career wrote many pieces on the history of Leon County and the surrounding region. He is also responsible for two monographs dealing with local history entitled,  From Cotton to Quail  and  Red Hills of Florida . His scholarly interests included philosophy, Blacks in the field of philosophy, racism, theodicy and Christian theism, Black theology, and especially the operation of oppressive structures in American society. Jones is well-known for his 1973 monograph  Is God A White Racist? , as well as the oppression investigation tools the Jones Analytic Model (JAM) and Jones Oppression Grid (JOG).","Jones was born July 17, 1933 in Louisville, Kentucky. He was one of six children born to to Henry W. Jones and Lannie (Brogsdale) Jones.","Jones attended Howard University, where he initially majored in engineering before transferring to philosophy. He recieved a BA in philosophy, magna cum laude, from Howard in 1955. Jones earned a Masters of Divinity from Harvard University in 1958.","Jones was ordained by the Unitarian Society of Wellesley Hills, MA on June 15, 1958, and served from 1958-1960 as Assistant Minister and Director of Religious Education at the all-white First Unitarian Church in Providence, Rhode Island.","He was a visiting professor at Howard from 1964-1969 while concurrently working on a PhD in Religious Studies at Brown University, completed in 1969. Please contact lib-special@unf.edu to schedule an appointment.","The Jacksonville Jazz Festival is a popular musical event held annually in Jacksonville, Florida that has grown into a major event with attendance in excess of 10,000. The Festival has featured a variety of local, national, and international performers over the years including jazz legends Dizzy Gillespie (1981), Miles Davis (1986), Tony Bennett (2003), Natalie Cole (2011), Patti Austin (2012), and Sonny Rollins (2012). ","The first Festival, Mayport and all that Jazz, was held in 1980, named after the fishing village of Mayport near Jacksonville Beach. It was a one-day celebration featuring music and seafood, and sponsored by the City of Jacksonville. After its second year, the venue was moved to Metropolitan Park in downtown Jacksonville and was co-sponsored by the local public broadcasting affiliate WJCT. In 1983, the Great American Jazz Piano Competition was added as the Festival's opening event. After the 1984 concert the Festival was solely produced by WJCT and became known officially as the Jacksonville Jazz Festival. After a hiatus in 2001 and 2002 the City of Jacksonville once again sponsored the Festival in 2003 and has continued since. Over the years the event has included a piano competition, 5 km run, educational activities, talks, jazz jams, and multi-location concerts at various downtown venues.
