Dr. O'Sullivan attended Fordham University for his undergraduate studies and then Columbia University where he attained a M.A. and Ph.D. After graduating in 1971, he came to Florida Atlantic University where he served as chair of the History Department (1975-1978) and devoted his entire academic career. Dr. O'Sullivan received numerous research fellowships including the American Philosophical Society, the American Historical Association, and the Sloan Foundation.","His publications include From Volunteerism to Conscription: Congress and the Selective Service, 1940-1945 (1982), The Draft and Its Enemies(1974), American Economic History (1989), We Have Just Begun Not to Fight: An Oral History of Conscientious Objectors in Civilian Public Service During World War II (co-authored with Heather Frazer, 1996) and numerous articles. Bovis and his business partners built the St. Andrews Lumber Company sawmill on the east side of the bayou.\n Bovis and his partners sold their mill in 1901 to a German organization which renamed the business the German-American Lumber Company. J. R. Saunders served as president of the German-American Lumber Company when it was organized in Pensacola. This large company eventually owned over 200,000 acres around St. Andrews Bay and 125 miles of logging roads. It became one of the largest lumber companies in the country.\n The stock in the company was principally owned by the Emperor of Germany, Kaiser Wilhelm, whose nephew, H.G. Bovis and his business partners built the St. Andrews Lumber Company sawmill on the east side of the bayou.\n Bovis and his partners sold their mill in 1901 to a German organization which renamed the business the German-American Lumber Company. J. R. Saunders served as president of the German-American Lumber Company when it was organized in Pensacola. This large company eventually owned over 200,000 acres around St. Andrews Bay and 125 miles of logging roads. It became one of the largest lumber companies in the country.\n The stock in the company was principally owned by the Emperor of Germany, Kaiser Wilhelm, whose nephew, H.G. Kulenkampff, frequently visited the mill. In 1906, Millville was selected as the site of operations for the sawmill owned by the German-American Lumber Company. At this time, the company owned 75,000 acres of land and employed 1500 people. It also supplied electric power for the entire community of Millville. He also worked as an assistant in the U.S Department of Public Health Service where he conducted various experiments that aided the government with food safety. He then went to The University of Rochester to work as an assistant professor of biochemistry. From 1919 to 1921 he was the chief biochemist for the Western Pennsylvania Hospital in Pittsburg. Lastly from 1921 to 1943 he worked as the Chief Biochemist at the Western Yeast Company, where he performed countless experiments using yeast foam tablets. He also worked as an assistant in the U.S Department of Public Health Service where he conducted various experiments that aided the government with food safety. He then went to The University of Rochester to work as an assistant professor of biochemistry. From 1919 to 1921 he was the chief biochemist for the Western Pennsylvania Hospital in Pittsburg. Lastly from 1921 to 1943 he worked as the Chief Biochemist at the Western Yeast Company, where he performed countless experiments using yeast foam tablets.
