She graduated high school in June of 1943 and went to Stanford for a government sponsored course for engineering, drafting, and technical calculations. This helped her get a job on the home front working inventory in a Barrett \u0026 Hilp Contractors shipyard. Simpson entered Cal-Berkeley during the summer of 1944 and graduated in 1947 with a degree in economics. She then graduated from Stanford Law School in 1950 and applied for an Air Force commission in December of 1950. Simpson entered the Air Force in May of 1951 and stayed in for twenty years.
