Materials are alphabetical and chronological within series.","Robert William \"Bob\" Saunders, Sr., son of Willard and Christina Rogers Saunders, was born on June 9, 1921 and grew up in an area of West Tampa (FL) known as Roberts City. After graduating from Middleton High School in 1940, he attended Bethune-Cookman College in Daytona Beach, FL before entering the Army Air Corps in 1942. He was primarily stationed at the Tuskegee Army Air Field in Alabama and, by the time he was discharged in 1946, he had been awarded the Good Conduct Medal, the Atlantic Theater of Operations Medal, and the World War Two Victory Medal.","After the war, Bob returned to Tampa and worked for the  Florida Sentinel Bulletin , the city's African American newspaper.  His column, \"Central Avenue Buckshot,\" chronicled life on Tampa's Central Avenue.  When he moved to Cincinnati, OH to work for that city's edition of the Cleveland  Call and Post , he became active with the local branch of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP).","In 1947 Bob moved to Michigan and enrolled in the Detroit Institute of Technology, earning his B.A. degree in 1951.  He worked for Ford Motor Company, became active in union affairs, and supported the local branch of the NAACP.","After the murder of Harry T. Moore in 1951, Bob was appointed Field Director for the NAACP, State of Florida. Between 1952 and 1966, he developed programs aimed at increasing NAACP membership and fundraising. Boxes within each series are also alphabetically arranged.","A prominent St. Petersburg realtor, historian, and politician, Walter Pliny Fuller was born on April 6, 1894 in Bradenton, Florida. His real estate career began during childhood, when he purchased several lots from his father using money earned from various jobs outside of his eighth grade classroom. While making payments on these lots, Fuller improved them and sold them at a considerable profit. He graduated from the University of North Carolina in 1915, becoming St. Petersburg High School's first paid football coach. He went on to become a licensed real estate broker and was responsible for managing his father's real estate empire. For two years, Fuller worked as an editor for the  St. Petersburg Times  and the  Manatee River Journal.  Between 1925 and 1926, he opened the Jungle Prada shopping center, the Jungle Country Club Hotel, and the Piper-Fuller Flying Field, the city of St. Petersburg's first airfield. With the end of the economic boom in 1926, Walter Fuller lost much of his fortune. He became a supporter of Franklin D. Roosevelt's presidential campaign in 1936 before going on to serve a two-year term in the Florida legislature. In 1940, Fuller ran unsuccessfully for a seat in the Senate, and three years later, became the chief clerk of Florida's House of Representatives. He authored numerous publications, including  St. Petersburg and its People  (1972) , This was Florida's Boom  (1954), and  History of Florida Cavalcade: Six Lectures  (1965).
