Chiles chaired the Commission from 1986 to 1993, first as a Senator, then as Governor. (He was elected Governor of Florida in 1990.) The Commission helped focus the nation's attention on infant mortality and the importance of early prenatal care. The Commission was dissolved in 1993.","Governor Chiles, aspiring to continue his support of maternal and infant health initiatives outside his government position, established the Lawton and Rhea Chiles Center for Healthy Mothers and Babies in Tampa, Florida, in 1997. Prior to his political career, Adams worked in the dairy industry after returning from college at the University of Michigan. He also maintained a farm and was involved in the lumber industry and property management during this time. After a near-impeachment in 1973 mostly scuttled him from the political arena, Adams remained a slightly eccentric yet endearing public figure, maintaining his flair for organizational involvement and was even chosen by former political opponent Claude Kirk in 1978 to become his statewide campaign chairman.","Note written by PC

Tom Adams Collection, USF Libraries - Tampa Special Collections, University of South Florida, Tampa, FL.

Tom Adams Collection, USF Libraries - Tampa Special Collections, University of South Florida, Tampa, FL.

The collection contains speeches by Adams, newspaper clippings, film and audio recordings, correspondence, photographs, newsletters, awards and plaques, as well as campaign signs and other items mostly focused on the period of Adams's political life when he was most active, the bulk of the materials ending with his lieutenant governorship in 1975.

Scope and Contents
The collection contains speeches by Adams, newspaper clippings, film and audio recordings, correspondence, photographs, newsletters, awards and plaques, as well as campaign signs and other items mostly focused on the period of Adams's political life when he was most active, the bulk of the materials ending with his lieutenant governorship in 1975.

None. The contents of the collection may be subject to copyright. Visit the United States Copyright Office's website at <extref href="http://www.copyright.gov/">http://www.copyright.gov/</extref> for more information.

Conditions Governing Use
None. The contents of the collection may be subject to copyright. Visit the United States Copyright Office's website at http://www.copyright.gov/ for more information.
USF Libraries - Tampa Special Collections","Adams, Tom, 1917-2006
USF Libraries - Tampa Special Collections
Adams, Tom, 1917-2006
English
Describing Archives: A Content Standard
[0
["aspace_21424","aspace_21424
["Box 23
Box 23
Box 23
Box 23","Kathleen Cunningham research collection on the Assassination of President John F.
