Gladstone assembled a 12 person steering committee of other philanthropically minded women in South Florida, and in 1992 they established the Women's Fund of Dade County. In the wake of the devastation caused by Hurricane Andrew, the Women's Fund initiated their grantmaking program by sending out their first call for proposals; they gave modest $1000 grants to 5 organizations from around Miami-Dade County.\nIn 1998, the Women's Fund of Dade County became the Women's Fund Miami-Dade County, and in 2007, they became the Women's Fund Miami-Dade (WFMD).
