Awards and Honors, Series III. Personal Papers, and Series IV. Objects.","Lieutenant Robert \"Bobby\" G. Glenn was born in Milledgeville, Georgia on December 29, 1941 to parents Stutson and Rosie Lee Glenn. He graduated from Blanche Ely High School in Pompano Beach, Florida and attended Fort Valley State College in Georgia. He ran track in college and came in second place to Olympian Bob Hayes in the 100 and 200-yard race. He received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Business Administration from Fort Lauderdale University.","Bobby began his professional career as a Meter Reader for the City of Fort Lauderdale. On September 20, 1970, he became the first Black firefighter for the City of Fort Lauderdale and Broward County. He was promoted to Driver Engineer and then later Lieutenant. He retired from the Fort Lauderdale Fire Department in 1992 and rejoined the workforce in 1993 as a Fire Inspector with the City of Tamarac. In 1994, Bobby worked as the Loss Prevention Coordinator for Broward County Public Schools. He held this position for 25 years and retired in June 2019. Throughout his life, Bobby Glenn served his community and coached girls' basketball teams, particularly in the Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) from 1972 to 1996 and at Broward College Central Campus in 1979. He was a member of Welcome Baptist Church, Mount Nebo Baptist Church, and the Liberal Black Firefighters Association. Bobby was an active member of the Zeta Chi Chapter of the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity since 1961.","Bobby married Iola Daniels on August 16, 1964 in Ormond Beach, Florida. They had three children: Stephna, Jeffrey, and Marquita. He died on November 19, 2023 in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.","This collection received file level processing. Each Series has its own sub-series as well with various documents and information. The first three Series in The Collection Athletics, Campus Planning, and History is organized chronologically within each series, including the bulk dates of 1993-2011 for those materials in the collection. The other four Series Early Years, Presidential Search, Events, and FGCU Early Years Event Photographs are organized by the rules of Archival More Product, Less Process. Therefore, not in chronological order, the material was processed in the way the collection was obtained from Susan Evans, including bulk dates of 1995-2007. Then 1988-2021 for Susan Evans time in office and employed by Florida Gulf Coast University. The third part and last four Series in the Collection also utilized the MPLP processing style. Material was processed in the way it was originally obtained. Materials for some of the Series were organized by the dates provided and available.","Susan Evans is a Florida native and began working for Florida Gulf Coast University on October 1, 1993, making her the institution's founding staff member at FGCU. Her commitment to Florida Gulf Coast University lasted through four Presidents and several interim Presidents. Evans worked as a University Lobbyist from 1993-2000, then as the Chief of Staff for over 15 years, and Vice President for two years. Evans worked as a corporate secretary to the FGCU Board of Trustees, as well as a committee member for the 2016 FGCU Presidential Search.
