Series VI contains miscellaneous media and is arranged by type of media.","According to the UCF website, the Office of Student Involvement (OSI) is one of the oldest organizations at the University of Central Florida. The OSI was previously called the Office of Student Activities, but it was changed in 2003 to OSI. The mission of OSI is to provide programs, services, and leadership opportunities that enrich students' time at UCF. Their core values are connect, involve, and impact. As of 2021, the OSI promotes these values by collaborating with both students and staff to create and develop programs that contribute to students' personal growth, civic responsibility, and diversity awareness. As of 2021, the OSI oversees the registration and management of over 350 student organizations (academic, pre-professional, honorary, military, sports, religious, special interests, minority/interracial, and service groups). During the 2009-2010 academic year, he served as the UFF Service Unit Director for the state's southern region while taking a leave of absence from his academic job. As of 2023, he continues to serve as the statewide chair of the union's Contract Enforcement Committee and continues to be a delegate to the twice-yearly UFF State Senate, as he has been since 1997. He had one sister, Pearl Lorraine Morrison Pitts (1938-1964). His father divorced Esther and married his second wife Ruth Swain (1911-1990). Morrison was primarily raised in Phoenix, Arizona. His family moved several times due to his father's job at munitions plants. He graduated from Compton High School in Los Angeles, California in 1952. Morrison earned an associate degree from Compton Junior College in 1955. Morrison entered the United States Air Force and served from 1955 to 1959. For three of those years in the service, he was stationed in Morocco and helped manage the library on the Air Force base. In 1970, he received his bachelor's degree in English from California State University. Morrison earned a Master's degree in Library Science from the University of Illinois at Urbana–Champaign in 1972 and attended the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University completing coursework in 1989. ","From 1972-1974, Morrison worked as a library director at the Frostproof Living Learning Library Center in Frostproof, Florida. He built a library and initiated outreach services for the African American and Hispanic migrant communities. In 1974, Morrison became the assistant director of Broward County Library in Broward County, Florida and served as deputy director from 1976-1987. He assisted in the growth of Broward County Library from 2 branches to 25 branches during this time. He also managed the formation of the new Main Library branch in downtown Fort Lauderdale, Florida.","Morrison lead in the construction of the Chicago Public Library's Harold Washington Library Center and became the library's chief director from 1987 to 1990. In 1990, Morrison returned to Broward County as director of Broward County Library and worked in that position until his retirement in 2003. Under his leadership, Broward County Library was awarded \"Library of the Year\" in 1996 and grew to 38 branches. During his tenure as director, Morrison fundraised for the creation of the African American Research Library and Cultural Center, which serves as a public library as well as a special collections research center dedicated to the history and culture of the African diaspora. His father divorced Esther and married his second wife Ruth Swain (1911-1990). Morrison was primarily raised in Phoenix, Arizona. His family moved several times due to his father's job at munitions plants. He graduated from Compton High School in Los Angeles, California in 1952. Morrison earned an associate degree from Compton Junior College in 1955. Morrison entered the United States Air Force and served from 1955 to 1959. For three of those years in the service, he was stationed in Morocco and helped manage the library on the Air Force base. In 1970, he received his bachelor's degree in English from California State University. There is also 1 scrapbook in Box 4.","The Peace River Valley Citrus Growers Association (PRVCGA) was founded in 1993 for citrus growers in the counties of Hardee and Desoto, Florida. In later years, the PRVCGA expanded further to include Charlotte, Manatee, and Sarasota counties as well. PRVCGA served as a link between commercial citrus growers throughout Florida and elected government officials, and hosted \"roundtable events\" where growers could congregate and share ideas and methods of practice with each other. Barbara Carlton (formerly Barbara Oxford) was the Executive Director of the PRVCGA for 20 years, and she is featured heavily in this collection. She stepped down from her position in 2014. Ten years later, the PRVCGA was officially closed down in February of 2024 due to continuous decline in production and market fluctuations, among other struggles.","This collection contains annual membership and meeting records, photographs, newspapers, magazines, newspaper clippings, audio/visual materials, and photographs of PRVCGA members, events, businesses, and workshops.
