These records document the history of the UCF Department of Housing and Residence Life, as well as the development of student housing communities such as the Libra dorms, the Business & Professional Women's (BPW) Scholarship House, Lake Claire Apartments, Academic Villages, and Rosen Apartments, as well as housing for Greek fraternities and sororities and UCF-affiliated off campus housing. The records also contain records related to training for Resident Assistants.

The Department of Housing and Residence Life is a subdivision of the University of Central Florida's (UCF) Student Development and Enrollment Services, formerly known as the Division of Student Affairs. Since the main campus opened, the department has managed and developed student housing at the university. UCF offers five housing communities on the main campus, off-campus affiliated housing, and housing at a few other campuses as well. The earliest dormitories at UCF were the Apollo dorms, which opened in 1968. In 1980, the Libra dorms were built. The Lake Claire Apartments were completed in 1994, along with new additional Libra dormitories in 1998. The Academic Village dorms opened in 2001. The Rosen Apartments on the Rosen campus and the Towers on the main campus opened in 2005. The Business Professional Women's Scholarship House opened in 1986, was moved to a new location in 1993, and permanently closed in 2014. UCF has had several housing directors, but Christopher McCray was the longest-serving director who held the position for over 20 years, followed by Christi Hartler who served as director for over 15 years.","UCF University Archives","University of Central Florida. The collection contains audio and visual content of participants from the Race and Change Project including research composed by students taught by Kitty Oliver, and an essay written by Deborah Works entitled "Historical Sketches and Rare Glimpses of the North Fork of the New River: a history of its natural and human environment" (2001). The majority of Dr. Oliver's questionnaires, transcripts and interviews consist of ongoing research study of race and ethnic relations, geographical history and social change through the collection of oral histories of Whites, Blacks/African-Americans and immigrants of various Hispanic/Latinx, Caribbean and Asian backgrounds. Research sites include the South Florida cities of Hollywood, Fort Lauderdale, West Palm Beach, Miami, Opa-locka, Delray Beach and Boca Raton; North Fork and Liberia – historically significant Black/African-American communities; towns along Florida's landmark Lake Okeechobee; Stranahan High School in Fort Lauderdale; and Ghana, West Africa – where women who have experienced America's racial climate shared their stories.

Some materials from this collection were cataloged in the Broward County Library catalog with the prefix "OLI".

Separated Materials
Some materials from this collection were cataloged in the Broward County Library catalog with the prefix "OLI".
AARLCC Special Collections
AARLCC Special Collections
English
Describing Archives: A Content Standard
[0
https://flvc.lyrasistechnology.org/catalog/a00ac4456d001c4f5b29b5b6_aspace_d0a108de5362db41fc5ab7e6bf638d18
https://flvc.lyrasistechnology.org/catalog.json?f%5Bcollection%5D%5B%5D=Southwest+Florida+Regional+Planning+Council+Collection%2C+1920-2020&f%5Bdate_range%5D%5B%5D=2001&view=compact
https://flvc.lyrasistechnology.org/catalog.json?f%5Bcollection%5D%5B%5D=Florida+Audubon+Society+Miami+records%2C+1961-2014&f%5Bdate_range%5D%5B%5D=2001&view=compact
https://flvc.lyrasistechnology.org/catalog.json?f%5Bcollection%5D%5B%5D=USF+Athletics+collection%2C+bulk+1956-Present&f%5Bdate_range%5D%5B%5D=2001&view=compact
https://flvc.lyrasistechnology.org/catalog.json?f%5Bcollection%5D%5B%5D=Sally+Thompson+collection%2C+1976-2019&f%5Bdate_range%5D%5B%5D=2001&view=compact
Democratic Women's Club of Florida, Inc.
