She was born Laura Reichenthal and began publishing under her married name, Gottschalk. Riding Jackson graduated Cornell University in 1921 and published her first poem in 1923 in the literary magazine  The Fugitive  and her first collection of poetry,  The Close Chaplet  in 1926. After her divorce in 1925, she assumed the surname Riding and moved to England to live with Robert Graves and his wife, Nancy Nicholson. She remained in Europe for 14 years, mainly England and Majorca, Spain, where Riding Jackson and Graves founded Seizin Press in 1927. In 1939, Riding and Graves left Europe for New Hope, Pennsylvania. In 1941, Riding Jackson married Schuyler B. Jackson and they moved to Wabasso, Florida, where she lived until her death in 1991. The Jackson's posthumously published a dictionary titled  Rational Meaning: A New Foundation for the Definition of World and Supplementary Essays  in 1997. Laura Riding's Florida house has been preserved by the Laura Riding Jackson Foundation and now sits at the Vero Beach campus of Indian River State College. She attended elementary school in St. Petersburg but graduated from Lakeland High School in 1934 and Florida Southern College in 1937 with a BS. Ed degree. She attended graduate classes at the Art Institute of Pittsburg, but obtained her Master's degree in Education from Pennsylvania State University in 1942.  In 1968 she received an honorary degree of Doctor of Human letters by Philathea College of London, Ontario, Canada, and she took graduate level classes at the University of Florida, but she never finished a Ph.D. She died December 14, 2006 after retiring from Florida Southern College in 1981 but teaching as an adjunct for two more years. ","She worked as a student assistant in the Art department (1936-37) at FSC . It was at this time that Dr. Spivey, president of the college, asked her to show Mr. Frank Lloyd Wright around the campus the first day he visited in 1937. Stoddard was then hired to teach art at the campus in the fall on 1937 and continued the role of liaison with Wright for the rest of his life. She was also responsible for handling much of the correspondence that occurred during the construction. Because of the nature of her responsibility with the project and her over forty-plus year tenure at the school, Stoddard planned to write a book on the history of the campus, and accumulated sources regarding Florida Southern College and Frank Lloyd Wright.
