Ms. Carol Mundy, a former flight attendant was able to travel the world throughout her career. As a result she was able to compile these documents in this collection and its sister collection also house at the UCF Special Collection and University Archives and known as the African American Legacy: the Carol Mundy Collection which hold about one thousand five hundred pieces of history that Ms. Mundy collected previously. The original collection was obtained by the University of Central Florida Special Collections \u0026 University Archives in 2009.","The research files were given to the University of Central Florida History Department through their program known as Regional Initiative for Collecting the History, Experiences and Stories (RICHES). They were housed in the History Department for a number of years and were donated to the University of Central Florida Special Collections \u0026 University Archives. Ms. Mundy saw the University of Central Florida John C. Hitt Library as the perfect institution to house her collection. She also wanted to bring more attention and educate the public and students about the African American Legacy. In 2009, the University of Central Florida, honored Ms. Mundy through the Burnett Honors College. Within the pages of pamphlet handed out at the event that day. In the pamphlet it discusses the importance of preserving and educating youth.","When the University of Central Florida Special Collection \u0026 University Archives received this collection, most of the documents were in three ring binders. Upon receiving the collection the binders were in no particular order and have been organized by city. Keyes was married to Elizabeth Dix Keyes (1914-2011). She was the sister of John Carle Woodruff Dix, who serviced in the U.S. Navy and fought in the Battle of Leyte Gulf in the Pacific Theater of Operations. After the war, Fenton taught at Skidmore College as an assistant professor of sociology and served as an assistant to the school's president, Henry T. Moor before becoming a member of college's administration from 1946-1956. Keyes was the grandson of Charles Henry Keyes, Skidmore's first president, and his father, Harold Brown Keyes, served for many years on Skidmore's board of trustees. In 1953, he was named to the newly created position of vice president of the college. He became a leader at Texas Woman's University and Coker College in Hartsville, S.C. In retirement, he wrote a biography of his grandfather titled Charles Henry Keyes: Cal Tech and Skidmore, which he published in 1990. Mr. Adams is a Florida Master Naturalist. He served in the 841st Engineer Battalion of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. He has worked as a land surveyor, charter boat captain, and eco-guide in the Everglades City-Naples area of Florida. ","He has served as a member of numerous environmental and conservation organizations, which is the focus of this collection. Over the past fifty years, Franklin has served in leadership positions with the Friends of the Everglades; Big Cypress Nature Center; Florida Conservation Foundation; Izaak Walton League of America; Environmental Confederation of Southwest Florida; Florida Native Plant Society (founding member); Coalition to Save the Everglades; \"Water!;\" and the Florida Wildlife Federation. He fought against the Miami Jetport and lobbied for the establishment of the Big Cypress National Preserve.
