Carpenter is a retired faculty member of the Department of Photography at the Crealdé School of Art. Linda received a B.A. in English in 1965 from Florida State University, and a master's degree in Liberal Studies from Rollins College in 1995. Over the years she has created a variety of exhibits that have broad-ranging subject matter and critical appeal. She was fascinated by the rapid growth of immigration in Central Florida throughout the years, especially regarding Asian immigrants. In her studies, she found that the 1970s' saw a massive influx of Vietnamese immigrants. Moreover, the Asian minority group in Central Florida grew 42 percent in the 1990s'. She acquired a Florida Humanities Council grant in 1999 to pursue this project. Linda interviewed ten different Asian-American women to find out why they decided to immigrate to the United States, the clash of their Asian and American values and lifestyles, and how their lives had changed since. The Asian American women interviewed immigrated to the United States between the years 1954-1992.","Collection processed by and finding aid prepared by Brandon Lynch in 2020. St. James was a disciple of Jesus Christ and was a prominent figure in Spain.  In AD 44 he was executed by Herod Agrippa in Jerusalem. His followers brought his body back to Spain and this sparked a pilgrimage for Christianity, called \"The Way of St. James.\"  By the 12 th  century war threatened the safety of passage for pilgrims and a brotherhood of knights arose to protect Christians on pilgrimage: they were called the Knights of Sant' Yago.","Today the Krewe of the Knights of Sant' Yago is a local Tampa, Florida organization that has dedicated itself to the perpetuation and enhancement of the city's proud Latin heritage and culture. The Krewe was established in 1970 by Dr. Henry J. Fernandezand and by 1972 the first gathering was held. Currently there are 300 members that uphold the Latin traditions. Known for his blending of bold colors with philosophy, labyrinth installations, and personal mixtures of performance and art, Gaudnek has influenced generations with his stark look at world issues through these mediums. Gaudnek continues his work today both as an artist and an educator with the University of Central Florida's Art Department.
