She earned her Bachelor's degree in Mathematics with a minor in English from Claflin College (now Claflin University) in Orangeburg, South Carolina, graduating summa cum laude. She joined the student chapter of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) and served as president. After college, she worked as a Field Director for the NAACP and organized youth groups in the South from 1960 to 1963. In 1964, Mrs. Hunter attended library school at Atlanta University (now known as Clark Atlanta University). In Atlanta, she met Roy Hunter a professor of Biology at Morehouse College. Festival, is an annual multi-day event that takes place in Eatonville, Florida, and throughout Orange County in late January. Raised in Eatonville, Zora Neale Hurston contributed to the Harlem Renaissance as a writer, storyteller, anthropologist, and ethnographer. She wrote four novels and over fifty short stories, plays, and essays, including her most popular novel  Their Eyes Were Watching God  which was set in Eatonville. Thomas Mickler was a native Floridian but Georgine was born in Chicago. She moved to Orlando in 1961, and they married the following year.
