Price was involved in projects for Disneyland, Walt Disney World, Six Flags, Universal Studios, MGM, Cedars Fair, Knott's Berry Farm, and several other entertainment organizations and resorts. The papers are divided into eight series: Reports, Proposals, Speeches, World's Fairs, Images, Subject Research Materials, Project Research Materials, and Price Company Files. \n\nHarrison \"Buzz\" Price was born in Oregon City, Oregon on May 17, 1921. In 1930, his family moved to San Diego, California. In 1942, Price earned a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering from the California Institute of Technology. After serving in the Army during World War II, he also earned an M.B.A. from Stanford in 1951. That same year, Price joined the Stanford Research Institute, where he assisted in locating the site for Disneyland in Anaheim, California. He managed the Stanford Research Institute's LA office for several years before founding Economic Research Associates (ERA), a consulting company in economics, in 1958. While at ERA, Price helped to locate the site for Walt Disney World in Central Florida in 1963, wrote a Universal Studios tour feasibility analysis in 1964, and carried out 6,000 consulting studies. In 1969, Price sold ERA to Planning Research Corporation, the world's largest conglomerate of professional service consulting. He became Planning Research Corporation's Chairman of the Board after serving seven years in corporate management. Price went on to start an independent consulting company in 1978, founding the Harrison Price Company. In 1994, Price was the first recipient of the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Themed Entertainment Association (TEA) and was elected to the International Association of Amusement Parks Hall of Fame in 1995. For 37 years and up until his death, Price served, alongside Edie Wasserman, as a trustee of the California Institute of the Arts (CalArts). Price also published a book in 2004 about his work in the themed entertainment and attractions business titled Walt's Revolution! By the Numbers . Harrison \"Buzz\" Price passed away in Pomona, California on August 15, 2010, at the age of 89."],"names_coll_ssim":["Harrison Price Company"],"names_ssim":["UCF Special Collections","Harrison Price Company","Price, Harrison"],"corpname_ssim":["UCF Special Collections","Harrison Price Company"],"persname_ssim":["Price, Harrison"],"language_ssim":["English"],"descrules_ssm":["Describing Archives: A Content Standard"],"total_component_count_is":4991,"online_item_count_is":0,"component_level_isim":[0],"sort_isi":0,"_version_":1870858054322356224,"_root_":"59327c0abe5aee857a5586d7","timestamp":"2026-07-16T08:07:55.983Z"}]}}],"label":"Breadcrumbs"}}},"links":{"self":"https://flvc.lyrasistechnology.org/catalog/59327c0abe5aee857a5586d7_aspace_b40c63ad07aa7f15c71c3e215311acdb"}},{"id":"359fedcc5b694e45729a69cf_aspace_80c25ce9a56df0888ecb131b814c9541","type":"Item","attributes":{"title":"White Paper Prepared for the Public Scoping of the Environmental Impact Study for Southwest Florida, 1998","abstract_or_scope":{"id":"https://flvc.lyrasistechnology.org/catalog/359fedcc5b694e45729a69cf_aspace_80c25ce9a56df0888ecb131b814c9541#abstract_or_scope","type":"document_value","attributes":{"value":["\u003cp\u003eFinal Revision. As part of his research, he interviewed Fred E. Wilder, a veteran of the Second World War who moved to southeastern St. Petersburg in 1953. Wilder had acquired four acres of land at the intersection of Sixth Street and Thirty-second Avenue (formerly Bayou Lake Avenue) South. By 1954, he opened Wilder's Trailer Park, with offices located at 770-32nd Avenue South. During the next few years, Wilder's Park became a magnet for retirees from other areas in search of a second home for the winter season. Senior citizens made up nearly 90% of the park's early population.","This site, nestled between Lake Maggiore/Dr. Martin Luther King (Ninth Street) South on the west and Tampa Bay/Sixth Street South on the east, served as an excellent locationfor a mobile home park in the years following World War II. By 1947, a Harry W. McCormick occupied the present site of the Wilder park, while a Lake Shore Trailer Park\nbegan operations at 800-32nd Avenue South. After Wilder acquired the site, he developed the park with amenities not found at the earlier \"Tin Can Tourist\" camps of the1920s and 1930s that had dotted Florida's landscape, including water and sewerconnections and regular garbage collection service.","By the fall of 1956, residents began to receive Wilder's Park News, a newsletterhighlighting events at the park. For over twenty-three years, Henry Crossley served as editor of this publication. Issues include news of pot-luck suppers, social events, classified advertisements, and various recreational activities for park members. Publication coincided with the traditional period when seasonal residents stayed at the\npark, usually from November through April. As of 2002, the park remains in operation at the same location, under a homeowner's association.","Lee Irby acquired this collection of newsletters, as well as occasional lists of residents and other notices, from Fred Wilder during his thesis research.
