Sampey of Tampa.  Al and Mary Ann began dating and soon formed a close relationship that culminated in their marriage on June 29, 1940.","\"Alvin P. ","There is one sub-series under U.S. Arts entitled Arts in Florida.","Materials are in alphabetical and date order.","Mitchell \"Mickey\" Wolfson was born in 1939 and raised in Miami Beach and Asheville, NC. His parents were Frances Cohen (December 16, 1906– May 9, 1980) and Mitchell Wolfson (1900–1983). His father was the founder of Wometco Enterprises in 1925 and served as the first Jewish mayor of Miami Beach in 1943. His older brother, Louis Wolfson II, was a Florida state representative from Dade County from 1963–1973. Mickey Wolfson is a graduate of the Lawrenceville School, Princeton, and Johns Hopkins. He is an American businessman and collector and founded the Wolfsonian Museum in Miami Beach and Genoa, Italy. Like many of her generation, she was deeply affected by the assassination of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., and brought her commitment to civil rights and social justice to St. Petersburg when she moved to the area with her husband in 1969. Winnie immediately became involved with the League of Women Voters of the St. Petersburg area, civil rights issues, and the local Unitarian church. She soon organized People for Peace as a local antiwar organization that hoped to end American involvement in the Vietnamese conflict. She rose through the ranks of the local and state chapters of the American Civil Liberties Union, ultimately serving as president of the state board.
