Army Reserve and was called to active duty in 1940.  For the next nine years, Brandt followed his father from army duty station to duty station.  He received a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from New Mexico Military Institute, Roswell, New Mexico.","Brandt was commissioned a second lieutenant in the U. S. Her intellectual journey deepened at Oberlin College, where exposure to courses on the African diaspora inspired her to change her major to Sociology-Anthropology, earning her bachelor's degree in 1957.","Gloria enrolled at Columbia University in New York, where she pursued graduate studies in Anthropology. She earned both her Master's (1959) and Ph.D. degrees in (1964), becoming the first African American woman to teach at Columbia University. Benton photographed stories for publications such as Time, Newsweek, and the New York Times and advertising campaigns for companies including Coca-Cola, IBM, and The Home Depot. He also photographed marketing campaigns for colleges and universities nationwide, including the University of Central Florida (UCF). UCF employed Benton to capture photographs of the campus in the late 1990s.
