She also wanted to bring more attention and educate the public and students about the African American Legacy. Oviedo residents worked in the citrus and celery industries and founded family-owned companies such as Nelson and Company, Wheeler Fertilizer Company, and A. Duda and Sons. Seminole County was established in 1913, and Oviedo was the second city in the county. ","In 1925, the City of Oviedo was chartered by the Florida State Legislature. The City celebrated its centennial in 1979. The City of Oviedo experienced significant growth in the later 20th century with the establishment of new newspapers and the new Florida Technological University (FTU), later renamed the University of Central Florida.
