In 1933 he enrolled in the architecture program at Czech Polytechnic University in Prague (České vysoké učení technické v Praze, ČVUT). During his time there, he was one of four members of a group of students who called themselves the Quadrifoliacs, who collectively worked on many architectural projects together, winning many prizes, and also worked commercially. He graduated in 1938 with a degree in architecture and engineering, and continued working with the Quadrifoliacs on projects including the design of the Hotel Sykovec.","In addition to his studies at the Polytechnic University and work with the Quadrifoliacs, Kubašta started teaching at the Rotter School of Graphic Design around 1937 and for a local plastics manufacturer, Blaklax designing household objects and advertising materials, transitioning from working as an architect to a graphic designer. He began working on book dust jackets, exlibris, and other illustrations, and also designed puppet stage sets and puppet costumes. ","In 1941, Kubašta illustrated Joyful Stories for Children, written by Vlasta Burian, and Folk Tales of Africa, marking his turn towards another (and long-lasting) career in creating children's books. In the 1940s and early 1950s, he worked primarily with the publishers Aventium and Dolezal, but his illustrations appeared in many works printed by many presses. In 1953, he began illustrating for Artia, where between 1955 and 1965 he illustrated and paper engineered over 90 books. In the 1970s, he paper engineered and illustrated five movie-tie in books for Walt Disney, and also began authoring his own stories. ","In addition to numerous commercial designs, it is estimated that he was responsible for creating over 300 books and that millions of copies in numerous languages have been published and distributed throughout the world. Despite the financial stability that his career brought him, Kubašta continued to work up until his death on July 7, 1992.","The Bienes Museum of the Modern Book (at the time known as the Bienes Center for the Literary Arts) began a pop-up book exhibition series in 2002, and as a result started actively collecting the works of Vojtěch Kubašta in 2003. The first one began on August 13, 1960. They targeted the Woolworth's counter. In addition, demonstrations were held at Cohen Bros, WT Grant Department Store, Kness Department Store, and McCrory Department Store. \n \nIn response, the stores closed their lunch counters and thus fueled the tensions that coalesced on August 27 also known as Ax Handle Saturday when 200 segregationists, armed with ax handles and baseball bats attacked 35 members of the NAACP youth council and other Black Americans who happened to be in the area.\n \nEventually, the police closed off downtown and the sit ins ceased. Then on December 8, 1960, Rodney Hurst was arrested for his part in the demonstrations and charged with instigating a riot. The charges were dropped after his hearing and was released. By May 16, 1961, all lunch counters in Jacksonville were integrated due to Mr. Hurst and the Youth Council's efforts.\n \nIn subsequent years, Mr. Hurst sat on the Jacksonville Civil Council and represented District 8 from 1975-1979 and District 10 from 1979-1983. \n \nLater in 2008, he authored a semi-autobiographical account of his experiences called \"It Was Never About a Hot Dog and a Coke!\" The book garnered recognition at the Sabrina Awards Best Non Fiction and Top Three Pick On July 31st that same year.","In addition, Mr. Hurst received awards for his participation in the 2009 Writer's Digest 16th Annual Self-Published Book awards, the ENAABLE and Blue Cross Blue Shield of Florida Black History Month Celebration. The reason for a state organization was to seek official recognition and high-school credit for adequate private instruction.","\nThe idea for establishing the FMTA was kept alive for over a decade yet nothing was done to progress it until after about fourteen years. In 1932, the idea for the state organization was revived by the president of the Jacksonville Music Teacher Association, Mrs. Lloyd Jones, she appointed a committee to study the most advisable way to accomplish the idea and form the State Music Teacher Association.","\nAfter a failed attempt in 1933, finally on March of 1934 there was an organizational meeting that was held in Jacksonville, the association had finally been found with over one-hundred members. FTMA was then later affiliated with Music Teacher Association in 1953.","\nFour years later in 1938, the association gained the recognition that they sought out for; High School Credit, it was announced with a statement as followed \"Credit may now be offered for adequate private instruction\" on the Florida school bulletin. They did not have a set plan on how exactly the teacher would be certified to their competence, it was until 1954 that they had a Model Plan.","\nA meeting on September of 1955 was initiated to talk about creating a local music teacher association. These meetings consisted of writing up and sending applications for people to join the organization, as well as creating by-laws and code of ethics that had to be submitted for approval prior to the official meeting. In October of 1955, fifteen music teachers met up to organize the Music Teachers of Volusia County. During the meeting the purpose of creating the organization was discussed. It started in 1975 as the Broward County Library \"Project for the Economically Disadvantaged\" but soon became internationally known as Library-in-Action Project. The project ran until 2002.","The Von D. Mizell Library in the historic Sistrunk neighborhood, which became part of the Broward County Library system in 1974, was the headquarters of Library-In-Action. As a result of LIA-authored grant funding, four additional libraries were opened: Dania Beach Library (Feb. 5, 1979), Collier City Library (1980), Rock Island Library (1980), and Carver Ranches Library (1982). Also in 1980, the Von D. Mizell Library moved to a new building with a larger collection. These five libraries provided youth and adults with free access to books, literacy classes, and tutoring services. They also created tailor-made services and programs based on community input.","Broward County Library's Assistant Director, Samuel Morrison, hired an administrative team to oversee the LIA program: Tyrone Bryant (Director), Janet Hansen (Assistant Director), and Tanya Simons-Oparah (Outreach Services Coordinator). The LIA team earned millions of dollars in grants, trained librarians and staff, and conducted programming. ","From 1977 to 1980, Library-In-Action staff canvassed neighborhoods and offered library resources to the Collier City community before the Collier City Library was built. The LIA's Homework Assistance program bussed children from elementary schools to the Collier City Library, where they received help with their homework and school projects, graduating more than 200 students in its early years. ","The LIA project also involved a Bookmobile and a Footmobile service - where staff went door-to-door promoting libraries and delivering books. Other notable programs included speakers such as Alex Haley (author of \"Roots\") in 1980, Elton Fox, and Tom Feelings. The Black Heritage program educated children on Africa, and an African hut was constructed in the Von D. Prior to his directorship at the Langston Hughes Library he was the director of the Committee for the Corona-East Elmhurst Community Corp, where he began working in 1967. The Committee's activism ultimately formed the Langston Hughes Cultural Center and Library in the Corona neighborhood in New York City. Tyrone Bryant became the first Director of the Langston Hughes Library which opened April 26, 1969 and served the needs of inner-city residents. Bryant moved to Fort Lauderdale in 1975 to become the LIA Director. The many programs conducted during the BCL LIA project originated from Tyrone Byrant's experience with programs at the Langston Hughes Library, such as the Homework Assistance Program. In 1983 Bryant was named Assistant Director of the Broward County Library system in charge of Special Services while also retaining his position as Project Director of LIA.
