Benson received his Honorable Discharge on January 18, 1946. After his service, Benson returned to the upper Peninsula of Michigan and attended college at the Michigan College of Mining and Technology in Houghton, where he received a degree in engineering. He worked for Ford Motor Company and then Westinghouse in Lima, Ohio, where he was living during his retirement. Benson married his second wife, Yolanda Benson and moved to Texas until his death. The folders within each series are arranged alphabetically.","Barbara Smith McCrimmon, daughter of Webster R. and Jessie Smith, was born May 3, 1918 in Anoka, Minnesota. She earned her Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Minnesota in 1939. Several years later, in 1961, McCrimmon would go on to earn her Master of Science in Library Science from the University of Illinois followed by a Ph.D. from Florida State University in 1973.\n \tMcCrimmon started her career in 1961 as an Assistant Librarian at the Illinios State Natural History Survey. In 1962 she accepted a position as a Research Associate with the Bureau of Community Planning in Urbana, IL. Then, in 1964, McCrimmon attained her first full-time Librarian position at the Illinoise State Water Survey followed by a two-year stint as Librarian at the Amierican Meteorological Society in Boston. From 1967-1969, McCrimmon was the Editorial Assistant for the  Journal of Library History . After recieving her Ph.D., she returned from 1973-1974 to be the Acting Managing Editor of the  Journal . The first series includes documents from work conducted at the sanctuary proper, though additional related documents may be found in the subject files. Within series, folders are arranged alphabetically.","Audubon Florida's Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary is a site which had been protected by Audubon wardens since the 1910s.  With no interest from the state in preserving the area, Audubon Florida founded the sanctuary in the mid-1950s.  From an initial 5,000 acres, it was expanded to more than 13,000 acres.  It is especially notable for its bald cypress forest and cypress domes, the only part of the original Fakahatchee cypress strand in the area to be preserved from logging, which commenced in 1944. As part of the Corkscrew watershed, the sanctuary is part of the western Everglades. To save the remaining cypress and vital habitat from destruction, Audubon led an effort to raise money to buy the property. By 1954, 5,680 acres were accumulated, the last virgin cypress forest in the entire world and the most important Wood Stork rookery in the U.S. When offered the property, the state of Florida expressed no interest in the site, so Audubon took ownership. By the 1970s and 80s, development had altered the local landscape and made the sanctuary a much less isolated site. Under the leadership of Executive Director (and longtime Audubon employee) Ed Carlson in the 1980s and 90s, the sanctuary incoroporated more formal education programs, a visitor center, and a boardwalk that provides a scenic tour of parts of the property. By 1942, he took military leave to serve as an officer in the U.S. Army Quartermaster Corps in Richmond, Virginia, and was deployed to the Philippines and Japan as part of the occupation forces. He returned to Tampa in 1946 to become Assistant Manager at the Tampa Terrace Hotel and was promoted to Executive Manager a year later. He remained at the Tampa Terrace Hotel until its impending sale to the Michel Group and his termination in 1964. The building was later demolished after it was returned to the possession of the Corral family.","In 1966, Gay was appointed as Receiver to operate the Floridan Motor Hotel (under court supervision on behalf of Penn Mutual Insurance Company). The sale of the Floridan was the result of a mortgage foreclosure again the owners, the Paul H. Smith family. Gay was made manager of the hotel during the five year litigation proceedings and continued to operate the business while the case was being settled.","Bartley Gay was active in the community and served as president to the Tampa Hotel Association, director of the Florida State Hotel and Motel Association, and as a member of the Mayor's Biracial Committee.
