From humble beginnings, four generations have built Noble into the business that it is today. William G. Roe, the founder of Noble, began a fresh fruit distributorship in upstate New York. Wanting to be closer to his network of suppliers, he moved his family to Florida and built a packing house next to the Seaboard Coastline Railroad (a common practice in those days). It was at this time his sons, Frederick and Willard, began planting citrus groves, focusing specifically on tangerines. In fact, the first tangerine trees planted were the Dancey. In 1927, the \"Noble®\" name was registered and thus began the packing of only the best tangerines. (Taken from WG Roe and Sons official LinkedIn Profile: Wm. G. Roe \u0026 Sons, Inc.: Overview | LinkedIn)","This collection contains business records from the WG Roe and Sons company. These papers range from legal records to financial information, including transactions. There are blueprints and building records from their packing houses. This collection also contains fire protection information relating to inspections and sprinkler installation in the packing house. It also references the Moundgrove Fruit Company, an old citrus company from earlier in the 90s. In terms of more recent information, it contains collector's information for citrus labels and other collection items, as well as recent nominations and inductions into the Citrus Hall of Fame.","This collection is owned by Florida Southern College and is protected by copyright and/or related rights. The project ran until 2002.","The Von D. Mizell Library in the historic Sistrunk neighborhood, which became part of the Broward County Library system in 1974, was the headquarters of Library-In-Action. As a result of LIA-authored grant funding, four additional libraries were opened: Dania Beach Library (Feb. 5, 1979), Collier City Library (1980), Rock Island Library (1980), and Carver Ranches Library (1982). Also in 1980, the Von D. Mizell Library moved to a new building with a larger collection. The LIA team earned millions of dollars in grants, trained librarians and staff, and conducted programming. ","From 1977 to 1980, Library-In-Action staff canvassed neighborhoods and offered library resources to the Collier City community before the Collier City Library was built. The Committee's activism ultimately formed the Langston Hughes Cultural Center and Library in the Corona neighborhood in New York City. Tyrone Bryant became the first Director of the Langston Hughes Library which opened April 26, 1969 and served the needs of inner-city residents. Bryant moved to Fort Lauderdale in 1975 to become the LIA Director.
