She began her military training at Camp Lejeune in North Carolina and was later transferred as a mess orderly to San Francisco, California in 1944. After the war, she lived in Peoria, AZ and passed away on November 17, 2002 in Payson, AZ. She is buried at the National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona, Phoenix, AZ.","Transferred from the Institute on World War II and the Human Experience to FSU Libraries Special Collections \u0026 Archives in July 2022.","This collection relates to Corporal Winifred Lund Caraway who served with the United States Marine Corps during World War II. By the turn of the century, numerous companies were in operation, with a heavy concentration in central Florida and especially what are the modern Polk, Hillsborough, and Peace River areas. IMC-Agrico was formed by the merger of International Minerals and Chemical Company and the American Agricultural Chemical Company. Due to poor transportation and the isolation of the phosphate mines from urban centers, the phosphate industry built and ran company towns for employees. Extensive records of Pierce, Brewster, Nichols, Tiger Bay and other \"company towns\" are also included in this collection.
