Lamb was still in high school when World War II began. His brother was drafted into the army in 1941, and Lamb was drafted in 1943. Lamb was under 19 years old when he was drafted, so was not immediately sent overseas and into combat. Instead, he completed basic infantry training at Fort Dix, then Camp Wheeler in Georgia. He was eventually assigned to a heavy weapons company of the 89th Infantry Division and was shipped out to England and Belgium in 1944. He participated in the end of the Battle of the Bulge as a runner for his heavy artillery unit's officers, and was one of the first to reach the Rhine River. Lamb also served in the occupation forces in Germany, and was discharged shortly after in 1946.","Transferred from the Institute on World War II and the Human Experience to FSU Libraries Special Collections \u0026 Archives in July 2022.","Emanuel Lamb served with the Heavy Weapons Company of the 89th Infantry Division. A. Patti was a writer, historian and retired Army lieutenant colonel best known for his work with Ho Chi Minh 1945 and his subsequent 1980 book, Why Viet Nam? Prelude to America's Albatross. After his service in the European Theater during World War II, Patti was transferred to the Office of Strategic Services (OSS – precursor to CIA) in Hanoi, Vietnam. While there, Patti was named head of a secret OSS mission under President Franklin Delano Roosevelt designed to support anti-colonialism in Asia. Part of Patti's mission was to befriend Ho Chi Minh and train Ho's men to fight the occupying Japanese forces in Vietnam. Patti was later pulled out of Vietnam by the United States in 1945 but he continued his friendly relations with Ho and his representatives. After his retirement, Patti worked closely with federal agencies in creating plans for civil governance in the event of a catastrophic attack on the US. Patti also became a well-known writer, recounting his work with Ho in 1945 and the changing face of politics in the Indochina region. Held for publication in the 1950s due to its controversial subject matter on communism, Patti's book, Why Viet Nam? Prelude to America's Albatross was published in 1980 and became known as a critical work on the study of politics in Asia. She attended elementary school in St. Petersburg but graduated from Lakeland High School in 1934 and Florida Southern College in 1937 with a BS. Ed degree. She attended graduate classes at the Art Institute of Pittsburg, but obtained her Master's degree in Education from Pennsylvania State University in 1942. In 1968 she received an honorary degree of Doctor of Human letters by Philathea College of London, Ontario, Canada, and she took graduate level classes at the University of Florida, but she never finished a Ph.D. She died December 14, 2006 after retiring from Florida Southern College in 1981 but teaching as an adjunct for two more years. ","She worked as a student assistant in the Art department (1936-37) at FSC . It was at this time that Dr. Spivey, president of the college, asked her to show Mr. Frank Lloyd Wright around the campus the first day he visited in 1937. Stoddard was then hired to teach art at the campus in the fall on 1937 and continued the role of liaison with Wright for the rest of his life. She was also responsible for handling much of the correspondence that occurred during the construction. Because of the nature of her responsibility with the project and her over forty-plus year tenure at the school, Stoddard planned to write a book on the history of the campus, and accumulated sources regarding Florida Southern College and Frank Lloyd Wright. Friend and author Lawrence Kinsley utilized her extensive archive for his 2016 text, A Child of the Sun: Frank Lloyd Wright's West Campus Project at Florida Southern College. ","More information about Stoddard can be found in her FSC staff file, also in the presidential correspondence of the three presidents she served under at FSC. Please note that some files may be restricted due to sensitive information.","Newspaper articles and clippings, academic/professional journal articles, letters and correspondences, photographs, books, interview transcripts, author's personal research notes, plans, theses, screenplay, college transcripts, pamphlets, and brochures.","Articles and Clippings includes both newspaper and academic/professional journal articles from 1928- 2007, as well as undated articles.","Books are organized chronologically by publication date.","E. Stanley Jones Foundation includes information about the foundation which was the predecessing project of Florida Southern College before the introduction of Frank Lloyd Wright. The project ended abruptly without much explanation.","Film Reels are ordered by the placement they were received in by the author.","Grolier Definitions includes information pertaining to words utilized by Frank Lloyd Wright, Florida Southern College, and Kinsley- and the context to which they were used for the construction of the buildings and Kinsey's monograph.","Letters and Correspondence are separated into two groups as Kinsley separated them: first letters that pertain more to personal matters ordered chronologically, followed by more business-related correspondences also ordered chronologically.","Photographs are arranged by the numerical system established by Lawrence Kinsley. Photographs without a number are then arranged by other identifiers such as printing/publication dates; i.e. Bryn Allen Printing, and followed by photos that have no identifiers.","Plans are organized in a numerical order established by Kinsley; followed by those without a number which are then organized alphabetically.","Permission to publish material from the Donna Stoddard Papers must be obtained from Sarah D. and L.
