He was married to his wife Betty for 73 years. Betty was born in Cincinnati, Ohio on February 19, 1921 and moved to Huntington, WV in 1946 with Herbert. She passed away on April 16, 2016. He was born in Cincinnati, Ohio, on October 3, 1920 and moved to Huntington, WV in 1946, after serving in the U.S. Army during World War II, in order to join his brother, Joseph, in business at West Virginia Electric Supply Company. He was married to his wife Betty for 73 years. Betty was born in Cincinnati, Ohio on February 19, 1921 and moved to Huntington, WV in 1946 with Herbert. She passed away on April 16, 2016.
