She served in the China-Burma-India (CBI) Theater at the 95th Station Hospital in Chabua, India, and also in Paoshan, China.\n  \tKraus applied to the Army Nurse Corps in 1942 and was inducted on October 10, 1942. In February, Kraus was assigned to the 95th Station Hospital in the Assam Province of India. There, Kraus attended to the Air Corps pilots flying into China (the Air Corps kept an airfield in Chabua, India). While serving in India, Kraus wrote home and described her train trips to Calcutta, Delhi, and Lahore.\n  \tOn October 5, 1943, the 95th Station Hospital was moved into China; Kraus was one of the nurses who asked for a transfer. In China, Kraus was stationed near Paoshan and tended to airmen. In August, Kraus left China and returned to India. On October 10, 1943, Kraus boarded the USS Ballou to sail home.
